You can use all the tools (except for cropping/transform operations for obvious reasons) on any layer and ‘stack’ multiple presets and effects. Exposure X7 has very effective adjustment layer and masking tools. You can also create Virtual Copies to try out as many different looks as you like – the ‘Audition Preset’ screen lets you compare up to six at a time. You can revise, remove or modify your adjustments at any time and export a processed JPEG or TIFF when you need it. Exposure X7’s hybrid approach to cataloguing does mean that searches can sometimes taken longer, but the simplicity of the system and its ‘always live’ folder display help make up for that.Įxposure X7 is a fully non-destructive editor, despite the elaborate analog-style effects it can create. There’s no import process and no need to sync your catalog with our folders to catch up with any external changes that may have been made in the way that you have to with regular cataloguing tools like Lightroom or Capture One.Īnd yet you can still add keywords (even to RAW files), create Albums and Smart Albums too. You choose the folders you want to include by ‘bookmarking’ them, and after that Exposure X7 will browse, catalog and search them ‘live’. You can create both Albums and Smart Albums based non search criteria.Įxposure X7 has a very simple system for cataloguing your photos. Exposure X7 key features Exposure X7 has a simple but effective cataloguing system where you ‘bookmark’ folders with Exposure will then track live. Its RAW processing is not perhaps of quite the same standard as Adobe’s, Capture One’s or DxO PhotoLab’s, but its analog effects, presets and styles go further to include image borders, textures and light leaks that would normally need a bitmap-based photo-editor to create – yet in Exposure X6 they are all part of the same non-destructive workflow. It has a large library of effects presets which evoke analog films, darkroom effects and styles, but at the same time it has a broad range of modern editing tools to match pretty well anything in Lightroom, Capture One and other rivals. This program feels like it has one foot in the past and one foot in the future. It will also work as an external editor for Capture One, so there are many different ways you can use it.

Cool! Exposure 5 is currently on sale for $119.40. Exposure 5 lets you choose the intensity, shape and location of the flare in your image. My model was backlit, and I wanted to add some flare to the shot to enhance the back lighting. This option allows you to add flare to your image. One new feature that is just plain cool is Light Effects. I may add a vintage film look to my shot, then add grain and a border using the controls on the right side. There are hundreds of effects to choose from, and I often use multiple on one shot. Exposure 5 can also be used as a stand alone program. Exposure works with most popular editing programs including LIghtroom, Photoshop, Aperture and Photoshop Elements.

Exposure 5 has sliders similar to Lightroom and Photoshop, making the program very intuitive to use. Once applied, you can use the sliders and tools on the right side to control the effect. You can quickly browse the effects and decide which one you like.

When you choose a folder of effects, say B&W Films, all the various effects with preview images appear underneath. One addition that is fantastic is the preset browser which shows effect previews. The program is easier to use, and offers more control on the effects you apply. A better description might be the program got a huge overhaul with some exciting new features.įor starers, Exposure 5 has a new look and interface. Recently Alien Skin upgraded to Exposure 5. Exposure didn't stop there, it had print film and black/ white film actions, even vintage films and infared. One click on the Velvia action, and I had a similar look to actually shooting the film. This program had folders of actions that simulated films I used to shoot, including Velvia. Naturally when I started shooting digital, I attempted to duplicate the Velvia look in the computer.

I knew any landscape I shot with Velvia 50 would be saturated and rich, you could also feel the tones and textures in the shot. In the early years of my photography career, I shot volumes of Velvia 50 and Provia 100.
